And now they are back with another great release. Four new hit songs, full of vintage fuzzed-out guitars, farfisa organ and worderfull screams.
White R&B punk mixed with Rock'N'Roll and do it with the attitude of the real 60's garage maniacs.

[BUT-15] Key London members of the flourishing international "Hammond band scene" The Gene Drayton Unit follow up their debut on Butterfly Records with another pair of exciting mid-60's flavoured original instrumentals.
A-Side: Due Bottoni. Written by the GDU's Hammond player, Toby Kinder, this is a proper floorfiller. It captures the sound of the sweaty cellar club, with heavy soul drums, driving bass and handclaps giving a real northern soul sound, topped with a delicious slice of fresh Hammond, and plenty of extra Tenor. Add the crisp "ping" of the guitar and Bob's your Dad's brother if you don't have the best "old" record made this year. You can almost picture the Unit up on stage, with the condensation dripping down the walls. The title "Due Bottoni" is a tribute to the de rigeur garment of the moment, the shirt with the high two-buttoned collar.
B-Side: Juicy Lucy. The GDU go for the full on 60's boogaloo, and the Blue Note influences ring out loud and clear. The grooving drums supply a fresh backbeat for some strident piano and raucous tenor blowing.
The single was recorded all-analog at London's Alaska Studio and is the latest in Butterfly Records' series of limited edition vinyl-only singles, carefully crafted to bring some brightly-colored retro fun to your turntable

  Format:

[BUT-14] Move on up to the bandstand folks and get ready to behold the undeniable groove of the ambassadors of instrumental soul The Diplomats of Solid Sound. Tune into the hard stepping funky action of these dancefloor scientists. Originally derived from the primordial ooze of Booker T and the MG's and the lounge surf of The Ventures the Diplomats armed with a handful of originals and a batch of choice covers played parties, opening slots, and small clubs. Started in late 1998 as a side project for garage rockers The Bent Scepters Dustin Conner (bass), Doug Roberson (guitar), Jim Viner (drums), and original organist Pat White assembled the key components that would be used to attain the Diplomats trademark sound. A skintight rhythm section, simple but effective guitar figures and interstellar soulful organ. After the demise of The Bent Scepters in Nov. of '99 the Diplomats tapped keyboardist extraordinare Nate "Count" Basinger to fill the organ void. A handful of rehearsals later the Diplomats found their sound had grown ten-fold. With the exceptional playing of the "Count" the Diplomats added to the potent mix elements of The Meters and James Brown funk, Blaxplotation soundscapes and classic blue note jazz groove. Live sets include originals, classy standards, soul shouters, and laid back infectious grooves.
After they debut single "Bullfrog Boogaloo" , the Cd "Intrumental Action Soul" and a second single "Porkchop" with Estrus, this is a new ep including a cover of the LOU DONALDSON song plus 3 exclusive new songs.

[BUT-13] Quickly after posting their demos, Lazy Lane's streams and downloads totaling over 36,000 rocketed all of their tracks into Mp3.com's top 40 charts... Following all the buzz , Barcelona, Spain's Butterfly Records released a limited edition 7" vinyl that debuted their first EP in July 02.
Formed by Lily Lane, the band's vocalist/keyboardist, Lazy Lane's lyrics of black roses, fat cats, and sea witches, boiled in the cauldron of her mind. They slowly cooked up a myriad of dark, eerie, spellbinding songs that would haunt the airwaves of internet radio and begin to snowball a devoted cult following around the world.
Armed with metal-influenced Nathan Ballato on drums, Aaron Richardson on electric bass, and co-founder Greg Ballato wielding guitars & turntables fused with Lily's Synths, unique songwriting and supernatural vocals conjure music that will seize your mind and chill your soul for a psychotic trip though worlds of darkness.
Emerging from the glowing metal and hard steel of Iron city Pittsburgh PA., Lazy Lane's fresh, ambitious, visionary eyes are set for the groundbreaking of their own brand new edge of music. They are currently preparing their full-length release "the chiLLs", scheduled for release in mid 2003.
Masters of improvisation and psychedelic mayhem, their carefully crafted light show sets an aura for their music and mesmerizes the audience, while vintage guitars, turntables & synthesizers illustrate Lazy Lane has... No Boundaries.

 Little Man
 Format:
 7"
  Price: 5.00 €
(832 ptas)

[BUT-11] Four ex-teenagers whose former bands have met over the previous ten years in a variety of London clubs and English seaside towns, bashing out authentic vintage garage and psychedelia until their hands bled and their Cuban heel boots stank.
Flash forward to 1999 and the same four lads find themselves living in the same corner of old London town, drinking in the same hostelries and still fired up about the twisted sounds of the 60's. Jon 'Mojo' Mills, Rich Walker, Andy Cornick (the meat and two veg of The Nuthins) are putting together a new group to indulge their lysergic guitar rock ambitions. Other Andy Morten (the spuds of The Nerve and now also in the Bronco Bullfrog) trades his drum kit for a Fender Telecaster and tags along for the ride.
This dubious chemical equation creates a deleriously wild and deliciously loud blend of freaked-out fuzz-drenched beer-fuelled rock not heard since the heady days when Status Quo used phasing and Iggy Pop was the drummer in a garage band.
They are christened Little Bare Big Bear after incorrectly identifying a well-known star constellation. Immediately, tales of this mythical new act begin circulating. Even a lone live show at North London's Dirty Water Club can't convince some speculators that this group actually exists outside the imaginations of it's members.
A deranged afternoon in London's fabled Toe Rag Studio under the auspices of side-parted sound wizard Liam Watson results in the successful recording of "Little Man" - think SF Sorrow era Pretty Things meet The Open Mind - and "Dr Morgan's Panacea" - whacky '68 styled UK psych-pop with a nervous edge - , two self-penned mini-epics which distill the frantic energy of the group's live act into eight minutes and the first of what should be many great double-headed singles from 'the most exciting new psychedelic rock act in the world' (it says here).

 Ordinary Twist

  SOLD OUT!

[BUT-10] Instrumental quintet The Gene Drayton Unit have been setting London stages alight during 2001 and are set to release their first record in January 2002, a three-track single on Butterfly Records out of Barcelona.
Take equal parts of jazz, soul, and vintage R&B, add a twist of 60s punk and stir it all up with a Leslie cabinet and you are getting close to the GDU sound. Asking the boys for their influences is starting a real long conversation, since they are all music fanatics with immense record collections. The obvious ones such as Stax Records, Junior Walker and Jack McDuff will crop up straight away, but you are just as likely to hear mentions of Thelonious Monk, Iggy Pop, Television and Captain Beefheart. But ultimately it's the heartfelt sound of the cellar, of the dancefloor and of rhythm and soul that comes through when you hear the GDU play.
The Gene Drayton Unit are key UK members of the current "Hammond band" scene along with The New Mastersounds, the ubiquitous James Taylor Quartet (JTQ) and well-travelled US outfits The Nick Rossi Set from San Francisco and New York's Sugarman 3. But the GDU have eschewed the current trend for funk and are instead firmly rooted in the earthy R&B sound of the mid-1960s. For want of a better term, some call it "Mod Jazz", but it's really just top-notch music.

The tracklisting of The Gene Drayton Unit single is:
  • ORDINARY TWIST - self penned R&B stepper. Hi heel sneakers recommended.
  • THE WHOLE HOG - the GDU go South with this Prestige style groover.
  • STEPPIN' STONE - flute-led version of the Monkees classic, and all jangly guitars, swirling Hammond and polo necks.
The single was cut live in the studio at the UK's only vintage analog studio, Toe Rag, and was engineered by Mr Liam Watson, himself a leading light in the UK retro scene.

Distribution is through Clear Spot (Europe) and Get Hip (US), mailorder from Butterfly Records website http://www.butterfly-records.com and at better UK record stores. SOLD OUT!

 The Helmut Stein Experience
 Record Title:
 On Return
 Format:
 7"
  Price: 5.00 €
(832 ptas)

[BUT-09] The Helmut Stein Experience is the soundtrack to a look into the darker elements of the human condition. Mixing elements of Jazz, Blues, Deep Soul and Pop, the music screams as well as soothes. It's late night into early morning music for a restless soul. Keyboardist/composer R. Scott (ex 00 Soul and Redd Foxx BBQ producer) has written a song cycle about situations both real and imagined. The music aches with loss and regignation as the lyrics tell stories of characters torn between right and wrong.

Phil Golla adds smoky shades of sax and clarinet to the brooding landcape. His intrumental prowess allows bursts of expressive soloing and lulling melodic accompaniment.

The rhythm section of Brad Wilson (drums) and Jason Hilliker (bass) keeps the music contemporary while employing classic elements from the great soul era. It's a sublime balance of past and present.Melinda Jones takes the spotlight, as well as provides support, with vocals as haunting as the voice a fallen angel. She's the perfect focal point and complement for the Experience.
Now, buy this great single and listen...

[BUT-08] The Waistcoats are the worldwide ambassadors of 'Nederbeat', with 3 albums and several singles released, and shows played all over the world. The Waistcoats Live @ KUT is their first record to show their awesome nederbeat power live in concert. Expect wailing harmonica, groovy organ, raw guitar chords and a thumping beat.

The EP was recorded live on air at KUT 90.5 FM Radio, Austin, Texas, in March 2001, and contains 3 Waistcoats originals and 1 cover. The songs are:
Girl of Mine. A classic 60s pop song, with vocal harmonies and a cool organ. It is a totally new song, written in January 2001, so no studio version is available. You wil agree that there is no need for a studio version anyway, as this take is near perfect.

That's your problem. A cover of the Outsiders, probably the best dutch 60s beat group. On most of their records the Waistcoats pay tribute to their nederbeat forefathers by covering 1 dutch 60s beat song.

What's in it for me. A mod riff song with a catchy chorus.
Someday. Slow beat ballad. The new organ arrangement makes this song very different from, and probably better than, the studio version available on the Explosion LP. Experience Awesome Nederbeat power live NOW!

 7" Colored Vinyl!
  Price: 5.00 €

[BUT-07] "Buffalo Bates" is the second single by The Dilemmas to be released by the Barcelona's Butterfly Records. File it under "Instant Pop Classic", because that's what it is for sure. In a parallel universe, such a catchy, summery, brightly-colored production would be a Top 20 hit: as it is, this limited-edition release of 500 copies on glorious yellow vinyl will be a record which in future will be sought-after by collectors when "digging for gold".

"Buffalo Bates" was recorded in London, England in late 2000. The Dilemmas on that occasion contained the following ingredients, in varying amounts: Andy Maidment: guitar & vocals, Andy Spam: keyboards, Phil Clark: Fender bass and Lady Croxington Green: drums & backing vocals.

Two tracks from the band's considerable archive make up the B-side: "Fahrenheit", from 1996, and the jokey instrumental "Sure To Fail" recorded way back in September 1988. Some of these Dilemmas play on those tunes as well. These boys have got longevity, ya dig.

[BUT-06] First, there was 'Don Ho/Glitter People' (BUT-01). A groovy, tongue-in-cheek tribute to the man backed with a swingin' go-go workout for the band. A smash on both sides of the Atlantic.

Now, the second release from The Redd Foxx BBQ takes you to a place
cool & crazy like a martini spiked with lysergic acid. Imagine it. This BBQ is one tasty sonic delight! 'Last Call' features a Mancini-esque arrangement, exotic percussion and a lead vocal by Helmut. 'Leave My Room' is a psychedelic journey that climaxes with a burst of drums and bass, tripped-out Moog, hypnotic guitars and pre-recorded madness. Both tunes are sure to put you in a trance.

[BUT-05] The Tyme Society were a strongly sixties - oriented combo with strong garage & folk psych influences, fronted by Massimo del Pozzo (the Others, Misty Lane fanzine). They grab inspiration from american garage beat and the melanchonic sound of New England bands and East Coast americana with a hint of dutch folk beat psych. They have a debut ep out on Psych Out Records and have included one song in the EXPO 2000 ep witch include also tracks of the Chocolate Watchband, the Thanes and the Rookies.

This new 3 songs ep included two great U.S. midwest garage folk punk songs (very much into Love/Enfields) and one superb instro Psych.

[BUT-04] The Dilemmas are a quartet from London UK playing energetic guitar pop with a distinct retro feel, top-notch tunes and a big fat Hammond organ pasted on the top. The band has played together sporadically since the late 1980s and in 1999, following a particularly strenuous night at an East London hostelry, original members Andy Maidment and Phil Clark put together a new version of the band to play a few shows on the London garage-rock circuit.

Reaction was good, so, drafting in keyboard player Andy Lambert and borrowing another band's drummer for the day, studio time was booked at the famously all-analog Toe Rag recording studio and the results are right here on this limited-edition vinyl-only release from Barcelona's Butterfly Rds. This is The Dilemmas IN COLOR EP. SOLD OUT!

[BUT-03] The Keepers are a new band cast from a vintage rock 'n' roll mould. Formed around March 2000 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, band members - Hugh, Bob, Willy & Norm have played in various bands such as Thee Dreggs, The Cinnamon Firm and The Blairmaynes. Their influences are rooted in garage, mod, psychedelia and R&B. Rekindling the lost energy and vibrancy of the 60's with buoyancy and attitude.

Reinventing the wheel is not where they're at but they are forward thinkers, experimentalists, dabbling in the rudiments of rock and the science of soul. Their live show is a rollercoaster white knuckle ride fuelled by an infectious groove and driven by a rage of emotions. They'll assault your senses and leave you reeling!
